The karambit was a small, hand-held scimitar modeled after the claws of a tiger that was common in Southeast Asia at the time.
In the Malay region of its origin (southern Burma, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei and southern Thailand), the claw knife is often called the kErambit, while in the Philippines and most Western countries it is called the karambit.
